‘Stars Hollow’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’. No two finer worlds have ever existed. I’m hooked and envious of your reality! I love the bookshop life, I hope it continues to be a joy to work in!

So so true! They are the perfect worlds - and I’m really feeling it because autumn is here!! 🍁 🍂

YES! I live in London too, those leaves are starting to fall and my annual Gilmore Girls autumn rewatch has begun. Bliss ☕️

I'm so excited for everything you've mentioned in this newsletter! Sequel to 'Sorry I'm late'? Yes! Tales from a bookstore? Yes! New extroverted experiences? Yes, yes! I manage a secondhand book store in Auckland and I feel like I would have given you a far more cynical response than the owner of your store :P We do have a lot more dead bugs, dust and mould to contend with. Otherwise it's pretty great.

Yes!! Bookshops are truly magickal and enchanting places. I miss the bookshops/coffee shops combos. I could spend hours there.

Love this, love you, bring it on Jess!

But even Brinkley can't save You've Got Mail's ending being WRONG.

Working in a small bookshop in London is my dream. The closest I got was a few days in Wigtown, Scotland, running The Open Book, an amazing experience

Welcome to Substack! Also, are you me? I'm reading your writing and I feel like we have a very similar writing style and tone–this is exactly my vibe so I'm glad I found you. 💗

I also really love the idea of working in a bookshop–I just moved to a small coastal town and have been looking for a charming little bookshop because, just as it sounds, it's the perfect place for one. But, there isn't one, which is a crying shame. I'm outraged, actually. I need the capital to start my own, even if it's in the shadow of Barnes & Noble–the Kathleen Kelly way.

Glad you found me too!!

I love this so much. I’ve always wanted to work in a book shop, it’s my absolute dream, but I just don’t know how to afford it. Seeing someone taking life by the horns and do it is so inspiring. For now I’ll have to make do with just hanging around my local Waterstones like I do already 😂

I LOVED this. (And I too work part-time in a little bookshop which fuels my Stars Hollow obsession...) 📚📚📚

Jess Pan's avatar

oh?! Where's your bookshop? x

Laura Pashby's avatar

In a little town in Gloucestershire. Strong Stars Hollow vibes...

I love this Jess! I am an introvert, but I do love social connection in the doses that I can manage. One of my favourite things is to walk round our local nature reserve. Most people you pass say hello or good morning. I often reflect on how unusual it is for that to happen between total strangers. Its the perfect balance for me between being on my own and enjoying that acknowledgement for a short time. I would love to work in a book shop, what a dream job. x
